Commissioner Vaughn Begick has filed for re-election to the Bay County Board of Commissioners in the 3rd District this year. Sadly, Vaughn is the only Republican on the Commission. As your Commissioner Vaughn has been able to place a freeze on any pay increases for the County Commissioners the past two years. We has tried to eliminate per diem pay for the Commissioners when attending other committee meeting, he will continue that effort. He has held the line on the County budget by avoiding filling new positions at the County Building. Veterans issues are important to Vaughn and he will continue his efforts to see that our veterans get the assistance they need. Vaughn needs our help and I would encourage all of you to attend his upcoming fundraiser.
Vaughn will be holding his fundraiser on 2/18/2008 at the LFA hall on Amelith Road. It will be a spaghetti dinner from 5 pm to 7:30 pm at a cost of $10 for adults and $5 for children 12 and under. You can RSVP by calling 686-0578 or e-mail at VaughnPAC@aol.com. Tickets will be available at the door. If you are unable to attend donations can be mailed to Vaughn at Committee to Elect Vaughn J. Begick, County Commissioner, 522 N Madison, Bay City, MI 48708.

Lincoln's Thanksgiving Address
As I prepare to depart for the Thanksgiving weekend, I thought it would be useful to share with you President Abraham Lincoln's Thanksgiving address. These days we no sooner put away the Halloween decorations that our thoughts turn to Christmas, without pausing to reflect on the meaning of Thanksgiving.
I believe President's Lincoln's address is as profound and relevant today, as it was during the Civil War. I'm sure you will agree after reading these words that we should all be proud to belong to the party of Lincoln.
Have a safe and happy Thanksgiving weekend!
It is the duty of nations as well as of men to owe their dependence upon the overruling power of God; to confess their sins and transgressions in humble sorrow, yet with assured hope that genuine repentance will lead to mercy and pardon; and to recognize the sublime truth, announced in the Holy Scriptures and proven by all history, that those nations are blessed whose God is the Lord.
We know that by his divine law, nations, like individuals, are subject to punishments and chastisements in this world. May we not justly fear that the awful calamity of civil war which now desolates the land may be a punishment inflicted upon us for our presumptuous sins; to the needful end of our national reformation as a whole people?
We have been the recipients of the choicest bounties of heaven; we have been preserved these many years in peace and prosperity; we have grown in numbers, wealth and power as no other nation has grown.
But we have forgotten God. We have forgotten the gracious hand which preserved us in peace and multiplied and enriched and strengthened us, and we have vainly imagined, in the deceitfulness of our hearts, that all these blessings were produced by some superior wisdom and virtue of our own.
Intoxicated with unbroken success we have become too self-sufficient to feel the necessity of redeeming and preserving grace, too proud to pray to the God that made us.
It has seemed to me fit and proper that God should be solemnly, reverently, and gratefully acknowledged, as with one heart and one voice, by the whole of the American people. I do therefore invite my fellow citizens in every pad of the United States, and also those who are at sea and those who are sojourning in foreign lands, to set apart and observe the last Thursday of November as a day of Thanksgiving and praise to our beneficent Father who dwelleth in the Heavens.

Presidential Primary
Good Afternoon,
I wanted to update regarding some local activity related to the upcoming Presidential Primary.
County Commissioner Vaughn Begick has agreed to be the Chair for Mitt Romney for President in Bay County. Vaughn is currently working on letters to the editor and needs a location for phone banks.
If you want to help Vaughn contact him at VaughnPAC@aol.com
Joe Sylvester our Secretary reports Duncan Hunter for President will be opening up their state headquarters in beautiful downtown Bay City. Joe reports this should be happening around the 19th. It's likely Congressman Hunter will be in the area and holding local events.
For updates you can contact Joe at cheneygun@gmail.com
